I think it's a personality disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder exhibits tendencies like this. It's a big spectrum, but subsuming your entire self into someone else is relatively common with this. He has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which will devour her entirely. The people in charge of his safety are right to be concerned. Borderlines can be dangerous. Good.
