For six years the President has been proving his memory is excellent by repeatedly failing to remember a memory test. The animals change every time. None of them are on it.
I’m a retired, 30-yr career Canadian Family Doctor, worked also in hospitals my whole career, worked also P.T. in my hospitals’ Emerg. Dept.’s 1990-2004, and delivered babies (over 1000, by 2018). Keeping up-to-date, meant knowing how to find blank copies of the MoCA, I knew it well. I’ve been trying to say, the President is not saying the truth about this test (and, I knew immediately when he said “Man, woman, person, camera, TV”). Also, he clearly does not understand the PURPOSE of the test, and talks about it like it’s an IQ test. Thanks for so clearly explaining how wrong he is. Note that this is the man who is re-setting U.S. Economic Policy, and U.S. Immigration Policy, with every wave of his hand; the same man who misunderstands the purpose of a “Screening Test for Cognitive Impairment”.
My dear old mom is 94, with very advanced dementia now: About 3-or-so years ago, a Nurse in a Geriatric-Specialist’s office, gave her a form of this test. One question, is either a serial-subtraction test, or asked as “Spell WORLD, backwards”. And my mom could actually spell “D-L-R-O-W”. BUT, she did not know the City (same one she’d lived in since 1970), the Day, whether it was morning or afternoon, or what Season it was. Later, however, in front of the doctor, she calmly argued that she probably could re-start her past 25-year career as a Travel Consultant, if only she just “brushed up on the modern procedures”. “Travel”, hmm!, which no doubt relies heavily on you knowing the date, the season, and “what city you are in”.
This is not her fault; this is “a symptom” of Advanced Dementia, of no longer understanding what you’ve lost, what you no longer know, and of “being unaware” of the extent of your own disability. It’s called “Anosognosia”, or sometimes called just “Lack of Insight”. Your President has this. God help the USA.
Indeed. God help us. Thank you for the clarity on this test. But even without that clarity, we Americans are very clear that this man is in a demented state beyond repair.
I’ve read, on various social media sites, that he (trump) is being treated with Alzheimer’s disease infusions either once monthly or twice monthly. Infusions are typically an hour or so in an upper extremity. Cognitive tests such as the MoCA are given routinely. MRIs to determine whether plaques in brain have reduced, are also performed. The hand bruising, the frequent trips to Walter Reed, along with some pretty obvious behavior and speech patterns and a parent who died with the disease speak for themselves. The Republican Party, billionaires and trillionaires, as well as foreign actors hit the jackpot with their hand puppet.
Indeed, I’m glad he is getting (if he is) experimental or cutting-edge treatment, because the end-stages (like my 94 y.o. Mom, who no longer recognizes me) are quite sad. But, that does not mean he’s competent to run the Executive Branch “now”… and, nothing ever reverses this disease, it just slows it down. Meanwhile, the “25th Amendment”, (written when JFK was not yet dead, with the intention of protecting the U.S. in cases of a president with a bullet through his head, but not quite dead) appears to be useless in the face of a Sick President —who, because of his illness, cannot comprehend that he is too sick to carry on. (His VP and whole Cabinet, have been chosen, by him himself, exactly for their ability to stay loyal through any amount of ridiculousness; so they don’t have the number to remove him.) Now, a horrible no-exit War causing economic chaos and near-20 U.S. service-members lives (plus countless Iranians, incl. 100’s of children); horrible murderous ICE (like, Statsi) & Detainment Centres with people dying or being sent away to near-certain death (depriving many US-citizen children and spouses of their intact-family)… and, all these GOP so-called legislators, just saying “Yes, Sir.” in the face of nonsense. I’m so glad I am Canadian; and that we have elected P.M. Mark Carney (& his team of all-elected people) to guide us towards a better future —As it had been said in Europe, “It won’t do, to have the fate of the whole economy of Europe [or, of the developed democracies of the world] held by 11,000 voters in Wisconsin, every 4 years.”
—We are opting out of “U.S. Exceptionalism”, as it turns out not to be so exceptional after all, and very fragile.
You are kinder than me in attributing any other motives to his sycophants than sheer greed and depravity, but you are Canadian… and polite. I truly envy Canadians and wish I was one! However I’m not, and I have never bought into American exceptionalism. Complete BS in my cynical and pragmatic view. The individual occupying the White House is a distillation of the absolute worst of the worst of the ugly American.Exceptionally so.
Also worth mentioning: the animals section shows the animals and asks you to come up with the name for each one. You get one point for each animal that you correctly name (ie, up to 3 points). He’s not even remembering that part of the test correctly, because he’s saying the doctor gives you the name of an animal and you have to choose which of the three animals it is (1 point, presumably). So the test is: you correctly recall 3 names. Trump tells it as: the doctor gives you a name and you find the correct shape. This is not a good sign. (And that’s the “easy” one!)
