Inherent spite and evilness comes with human nature. Now some have been encouraged to just let flow. Trump has a knack or a talent for that.

No, not apathy but an insidious and diabolical plan to keep this country White at all costs, and Christian; a pathetic oxymoron.

Steven Miller is the face that springs to my own mind; the author of the 3000 detainees-a-day rule...or whatever the number is. A certifiable hate-filled ghoul who has always been what we now see. AND...there are soooo many (ie. Josh Hawley, self-proclaimed Christian Nationalist; Hegseth and his warped pastor, Doug Wilson; Tom Cotton, Ak.and his myopic views, etc.)- this revelation renders me sleepless. When a country's government is infested with human vermin, who are themselves the exterminators, what is the solution ?

I spent 6 years in a maximum security prison in Texas, so I have personally experienced the way that a “category” ( in my case it was “offender” instead of “detainee”, but it’s the same mechanism) can determine whether or not you are treated like a human being. The thing that caused me the most pain and anger in prison was watching how the guards and the medical personnel treated prisoners. I watched several women die due to lack of medical care. Texas prisons are not, in the main, air conditioned, and yet even small comforts like cold water are provided once or twice a day, if at all. Prison guards typically behaved as if it was their life mission to make the conditions of our confinement as miserable as possible. I remember walking down “Main Street” - the wide concrete boulevard that ran down the middle of the campus - when a woman had a seizure and dropped face first on the concrete. I was not allowed to even hold her head to keep it from repeatedly hitting the concrete. Medical personnel finally showed up at a very slow walk, and stood and WATCHED HER FLOP ON THE CONCRETE until her seizure ran its course, when they finally took her by the arm and walked her into medical.

I guess what I’m saying is that at least in Texas, the predilection to be cruel is never far from the surface.

Thank you for sharing this. What you're describing isn't an aberration, it's the system working as designed in too many places. The cruelty isn't incidental. And the fact that you can articulate it this clearly after living it says something.

Thanks. I’m not sure what 🙃. But I did manage to survive with my morality and my humanity intact, and I’m very grateful for that. It also means I’m under no illusions as to what this administration is capable of
